Salaam alaykum yall!
Although, I try to stay away from labeling things as "halal" and "haram" or creating strict lists of Islamic do's and don’t, when I read the descriptions of believers detailed in the Quran, I can't help but compare myself and do a mental checklist. The Quran is a guide and a great way to help steer ourselves on the right path. Its important to acknowledge the behaviors and attributes of a Muslim and assess ourselves in order to increase our iman.
I was reading Surah 25 Al-furqaan and I came across descriptions of the servants of Allah in verses 63-68. I found myself yet again doing my mental checklist.
Who are the servants of Allah? People who….
- spends the night in adoration of Allah
- ask Allah to save them from Hell fire
- don’t spend extravagantly
- are not miserly
- are just!
- do not worship any other god except Allah
- do not take life except for just cause
- do not commit fornication
We may not all fair well in this comparison but the importance is to be aware of our potential and to strive to attain it. Allah would not detail characteristics that would be impossible for us to attain. If Allah says you can do it….you DEFINITELY can.
May Allah make it easy for all of us. Amin
